Photo: Nunavut food security activists off to leadership conference

I got your back. Kugluktuk High school student Charlie Hikok, 18, left, is travelling to Lillooet, B.C., with school community councillor Kenneth Taptuna, 37, to attend the seventh annual International Indigenous Leadership Gathering from June 4 to June 7. The theme of this year’s conference, “Protecting the Sacred,” explores sacred knowledge, language, lands and providing for future generations. The two Kugluktummiut have been invited because of their involvement with a local, ongoing research project focused on food security and sovereignty initiated by University of British Columbia PhD candidate Rebecca Klady.
