Here’s what home looks like to more than 1,000 members of the Canadian Armed Forces, U.S. Coast Guard, Canadian Rangers, and the Royal Danish Navy involved in this year’s Operation Nanook near Resolute Bay Aug. 5 to 26. “Operation Nanook demonstrates our government’s commitment to Canada’s sovereignty and cooperation in the Arctic region,” said Peter MacKay, federal defence minister, as he announced the start of Nanook. “With world attention on the region on the rise and with an increasing travel into and over the vast territory of Canada’s North, our government has made it a priority to enhance the Canadian Forces’ operational capability in the Arctic.” (PHOTO COURTESY OF ATCO)
