Photo: Phone, data service down for 1,000 Iqaluit residents

Five Northwestel service trucks are blocking Queen Elizabeth Way in Iqaluit to fix damage to a cable June 17. Approximately 1,000 Iqaluit residents lost phone and data service this morning because of the damage. “Northwestel personnel are currently focused on restoring services, and have prioritized emergency services at Iqaluit hospital,” a Northwestel media advisory said. The advisory said the damage to the cable is “significant” and they don’t know when they can restore phone and data services. “Residents should be prepared to be without service for longer than 24 hours.” (PHOTO BY DAVID MURPHY)
