Photo: Public hearings wrap on Quebec mining act

An overhead view of Xstrata’s Raglan mine complex in Nunavik – the region’s only fully-operating mine. Public hearings wrapped up earlier this week in Quebec City on Bill 43, a bill to reform Quebec’s existing mining act, which would impose new environmental requirements, give new powers to municipalities and calls for greater transparency of mining activities such as extracted tonnage and annual royalties. Nunavik organizations presented their thoughts on the bill at hearings this week. Read more about it later at www.nunatsiaqonline.ca. (IMAGE COURTESY OF XSTRATA)
