Police find remains of missing Pond Inlet man
Boazie Idlout disappeared in July 2008
Officials in Pond Inlet have identified recently-discovered human remains as those of Boazie Idlout, a local man who has been missing since 2008.
The man’s remains were found Aug. 21 by two men travelling south east of the hamlet of Pond Inlet, who notified local police.
A coroner was later able to determine they belonged to Idlout.
Idlout,a long-time employee of Quilliq Energy Corp., disappeared from the community in July 2008.
A search, which began July 10, 2008, was called off July 23, 2008.
Residents said the middle-aged man left his truck parked near the Pond Inlet power plant, where he worked, and was never heard from again.
A ground search involving 80 people combed the land around Pond Inlet with police dogs while the RCMP chartered a helicopter to search the area.
But searchers came up empty-handed.
Police said no foul play is suspected in Idlout’s death.
