Police investigate deadly car roll-over in Whale Cove

One man dies; woman medevaced south with life-threatening injuries

RCMP in Nunavut are investigating a car accident in Whale Cove that killed a man from Arviat and injured a Whale Cove woman.

On mid-afternoon July 20, a vehicle with two passengers rolled over off the road that connects the Hudson Bay community to its airport.

An Arviat man was pronounced dead at the scene, RCMP said July 21, while the female driver was medevaced to Winnipeg with life-threatening injuries.

The RCMP’s traffic analyst is working with the community to determined what caused the vehicle to flip over.

This is the second deadly accident suffered by the Kivalliq community of about 400 this month.

Last week, an 18-year-old resident drowned in Old Water Lake.
