Quebec police are investigating the death of a young woman in the Nunavik community of Umiujaq.
Kativik Regional Police Force officers were called to a home in the Hudson Bay coast community of about 450 people around 8 a.m. Sept. 21, where they found the lifeless body of a 24-year-old woman.
Sûreté du Québec spokesperson Benoît Coutu said Sept. 22 that the KRPF later arrested a 26-year-old man in connection with the woman’s death.
The suspect remains in custody in Umiujaq, although he’s yet to face charges.
A team from the SQ’s major crime unit is expected to arrive in the community today to do a full investigation of the circumstances around the woman’s death, Coutu said.
