QIA names new assistant executive director

PJ Akeeagok “brings great strength in management and communication to the QIA organization”

In advance of its special board meeting, scheduled to start during the afternoon of Sept. 4 in Iqaluit, the Qikiqtani Inuit Association announced the appointment of PJ Akeeagok as its new assistant executive director.

“PJ brings great strength in management and communication to the QIA organization. Through Mr. Akeeagok’s leadership, QIA will be working to advance important organizational changes and enhance the organization’s communications and administrative capabilities,” a QIA news release said.

Akeeagok, 28, was most recently the assistant director of communications for Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. Akeeagok has also worked for NTI’s social and cultural department.

Previously he worked as a project coordinator at Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami and as a QIA Community Liaison Officer in his hometown of Grise Fiord.

As part of his new role within QIA, Akeeagok, who is fluent in English and Inuktitut, will take on responsibilities for administration, information technology, translation, leadership of the community liaison network, as well as organizational policy and procedure.
