QIA seeks keen Baffin beneficiaries for committees, boards
Sanikiluaq committee will advise on new territorial park project

If you’re a beneficiary of the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement and live in Nunavut’s Baffin region, you could consider putting your name in to serve on several committees and boards.
That was the call put out Aug. 19 by the Qikiqtani Inuit Association.
The QIA is seeking nominations to the Nunavut Joint Planning and Management Committee for planning, establishment, operation and management of Nunavut territorial parks, the Joint Parks Management Committee for Auyuittuq and Sirmilik national parks, and the Sanikiluaq Planning and Management Committee.
The Sanikiluaq committee will provide advice and recommendations to the Government of Nunavut” on all aspects related to the planning, establishment, operation, and management of the proposed Sanikiluaq Territorial Park,” said the QIA, which is looking for three board members.
Appointees should have skills, knowledge and/or experience in one or more of the following areas:
• territorial parks;
• the NCLA;
• territorial parks Inuit Impact and Benefit agreement;
• parks and tourism ;
• local wildlife and sound environmental practices; and,
• lands and waters in and around Sanikiluaq and the proposed park.
The QIA is also seeking “energetic and dynamic” people to fill board positions, with three-year terms, for the following boards:
• Inuit Heritage Trust;
• Kakivak Grants and Loans Appeals Committee;
• Nunavut Disability Council;
• Nunavut Impact Review Board; and,
• Nunavut Trust;
