Qulliit status of women council gets three new board members
“We will be more complete as a council”
Nunavut Premier Eva Aariak has appointed three new members to the Qulliit Nunavut Status of Women Council board.
“I am thrilled with this announcement as we will be more complete as a council to do the important work we continue to do,” said Qulliit president Donna Adams in a Nov. 9 news release. “I am also very pleased that the Government of Nunavut applied our recommendations to select individuals that will represent all three regions, Kivalliq, Kitikmeot, and Qikiqtani.”
Jean Simailak of Baker Lake, Mary Kayasark of Kugaaruk, and Tamara Ohokannoak of Cambridge Bay will serve two-year terms on the Qulliit board.
“I am honoured to appoint these three influential women to the Qulliit board,” Aariak said in the same release. “I know they will work hard to ensure equality for all women in Nunavut through advocacy, research, and public education.”
Maude Bertrand of Iqaluit and Martha Hickes of Baker Lake have ended their terms and will no longer serve on the council.
