RCMP charge Iqaluit 12-year-old with careless use of a firearm

Iqaluit saw the second incident in a less than week that involved a 12-year-old child and required police intervention.

The RCMP said Sept. 25 that a 12-year-old was apprehended Sept. 24 behind the Northmart.

Police said a high-calibre rifle was seized that was found unloaded.

The child was charged with careless use of a firearm and released with conditions, police told Nunatsiaq News.

A 12-year-old boy has been charged with arson with damage to property in relation to a suspicious fire in Iqaluit Sept. 19, the RCMP reported Sept. 21.

Police said the boy was charged after a criminal investigation determined the fire had been deliberately set.

In an unrelated incident, three youth aged 13 to 16 are facing several arson-related charges in connection with the Sept. 6 fire that leveled Peter Pitseolak High School in Cape Dorset.
