RCMP arrest two people in Grise Fiord firearms incident

RCMP members have arrested two people in connection with a firearms incident in Grise Fiord.

An RCMP news release does not identify the two people by name, age or gender and does not state what charges they may face.

Members of the Grise Fiord RCMP detachment responded to the incident at around 6:40 a.m. Oct. 18, police said.

RCMP said no one was injured and that the area surrounding the place where the incident took place had been “contained.”

More members were sent to Grise Fiord, police said.

According to FlightAware.com’s live flight tracking website, a Pilatus PC-12 single-turboprop plane arrived in Grise Fiord from Iqaluit at 2:27 p.m.

RCMP have requested that long distance telephone calls to Grise Fiord “be kept to a minimum” to ensure the availability of phone lines for emergency services.

Grise Fiord, Nunavut’s northernmost community, has about 150 inhabitants.
