RCMP make three drug-booze busts in Pond Inlet

Seizures include weed, hash oil, home brew

RCMP in Pond Inlet made three big contraband seizures this past December, thanks to tips from the public.

On Dec. 8, RCMP seized 210 grams of cannabis oil and 215 grams of cannabis resin. Police estimate the re-sale value of those drugs at about $44,000.

Ira Saunders, 44, faces two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

Saunders has been released from custody on a promise to appear in court in Pond Inlet Jan. 31.

The second drug seizure occurred Dec 14, when the RCMP found a package containing a pound of marijuana, a number of marijuana derivatives and psilocybin mushrooms, also known as magic mushrooms.

Police estimate the drugs could have been worth $33,000 if sold on the street.

Police have not laid any charges in connection with the second seizure and continue to investigate the matter.

And on Dec. 21, the Pond Inlet RCMP executed a search warrant on a local residence where police believe someone was was brewing homemade liquor for sale.

Police found 17 litres of home brew, valued at $900, and a brewing operation inside the home.

Boazie Innualuk, 49, faces a charge of keeping liquor for sale.

He was released from custody with a promise to appear in court April 24 in Pond Inlet.
