Nunavut RCMP grab weed packages mailed to Hall Beach
Police seize more than two kilos of marijuana, marijuana resin
The Nunavut RCMP says investigators have seized packages of illegal drugs that somebody had sent by mail to Hall Beach.
On Oct. 8, police and Canada Post’s security and investigations services intercepted packages that contained about two kilograms of marijuana and marijuana resin, an RCMP news release said.
Police have made no arrests, but continue an investigation, the release said.
RCMP have made efforts to crackdown on the northern flow of marijuana in recent weeks; police made a number of arrests in September linked to a major Montreal-based drug distribution network, that is believed to have been supplying marijuana, via Canada Post, to communities in Nunavut and Nunavik.
Police arrested about a dozen people connected to the network, including a 52-year-old Montreal man who they allege is the boss of the network.
Police said the Montreal-based network has been running for many years, but don’t know if the grow-op was dedicated solely to supplying marijuana to the eastern Arctic.
Nunavut RCMP invite people with information on drug trafficking in their communities to contact their local RCMP detachment or call (867) 979-0123.
