Sanikiluaq man, 39, dies in ATV mishap

Nunavut RCMP, coroner’s office continue to investigate

A 39-year-old Sanikiluaq man is dead following an all-terrain vehicle accident that took place in the early morning hours of Aug. 3 outside the community, Nunavut RCMP said Aug. 5.

Police said the man and a 22-year-old passenger were thrown from the vehicle.

The two people made it on their own to the Sanikiluaq health centre, but the man died afterwards from his injuries, police said.

The 22-year-old, who police did not identify, received minor injuries.

An RCMP traffic analyst, the Nunavut coroner’s office and members of the Sanikiluaq RCMP detachment are continuing their investigation, police said.

Police said they will not release the name of the dead 39-year-old man “at the request of the family.”
