Scary vandalism in Iqaluit

By NUNATSIAQ NEWS

I just wanted to point out something disturbing that I witnessed one afternoon last week.

I am visiting Iqaluit and saw an adult and a youth vandalizing a sign for a candidate.

The way they were attacking the sign was quite scary. The two people took the sign, and while smiling, starting pounding it with a boulder while the youth took a bat and starting bashing it.

All this while, they were smiling and laughing.

When I was growing up in Iqaluit, we didn’t see things like this, as a matter of fact, our parents told us to respect people and to be gentle and kind.

Mind you, the person’s spouse is a known drug dealer who tried to smuggle in thousands dollars worth of drugs, so in a way I am not quite surprised at this, but at the same time, these were Inuit who were doing this, Inuit who had so much hatred, enough hatred where they were literally smashing this sign.

For the people who did this, you know who you are? If only your parents or your grandparents could have seen you doing this, do you think that they would be proud of you for this? I think not.

I don’t want to mention the name of the candidates name out of respect for their family.

I hope this adult vandal will have the guts to go up to the candidate and apologize, because, I am sure that is what his grandparents would have wanted him to do out of respect. Grow up!
