Search continues for missing Nunavut hunter
Another hunter has arrived in Iqaluit for medical treatment
Searchers are still looking for a hunter from Qikiqtarjuaq who was reported overdue Feb. 22, the RCMP said Feb. 25 in a news release.
The man, who police did not name in the news release, had departed Qikiqtarjuaq Feb. 14 with another hunter.
On Feb. 19, the pair became separated near Nudlung Fiord, about 150 kilometres north of Qikiqtarjuaq, when a snowmobile broke down.
One hunter walked four days to a hunting camp and was airlifted to Iqaluit Feb. 24, when he received medical care and is reported to be in stable condition.
The RCMP said the other hunter has additional survival gear and is experienced on the land.
Nunavut Emergency Management, Canadian Rangers, the local search and rescue committee and the RCMP are all involved in the search effort.
The RCMP is not releasing the names of the missing hunters right now.
“The families of the missing hunters have been kept informed of the efforts thus far by the agencies involved and remain hopeful for a successful outcome,” the RCMP news release said.
