Search and rescue teams from Cambridge Bay along with two aircraft have spent days combing the area between Victoria Island and the mainland — but so far, they have seen no sign of Johnny Kaosoni of Cambridge Bay, who has missing for six days.

Kaosoni, who is in his early-40s, set out from a cabin on the mainland last weekend but failed to return to Cambridge Bay.

On April 1, his family notified the RCMP in Cambridge Bay that he had not returned home, police said in an April 5 news release.

Kaosoni had been at a cabin located about 50 kilometres southwest of Cambridge Bay on the mainland.

Police say he was dressed for the cold conditions, wearing warm snow pants and a parka.

Sources in Cambridge Bay say searchers have been looking in a 120-km radius around where Kaosoni would have crossed towards Cambridge Bay.

On April 5 temperatures in the Kitikmeot community are relatively warm — -9.8 C with a wind chill of -18 C.
