Fans of the Inuit Broadcasting Corporation’s Qanurlishould welcome this “awesomest news:” the second season of the popular Inuit show is in production for its fall 2012 premiere on the Aboriginal Peoples Television Network.

Production is underway in Iqaluit, while additional show segments are being filmed in communities across Nunavut.

Qanurli or What’s Next? in English is a program aimed at Inuit youth — although its audience is much wider. The series reflects Northern youth perspective on today’s issues and culture.

This show’s second season will feature Qanurli star Inuk Qablunaaq (Thomassie Anguti Johnston) and Nipangi Suitti (Vinnie Karetak) as they produce a new show together called The Inuk Nipangi Shooooowww!

IBC said the first season of Qanurli was a success, thanks in large part to a successful social media campaign that reached out across Nunavut and beyond.

“It is evident that people are anxiously waiting to watch the new season of Qanurli?, the YouTube channel and to keep up with the ever hilarious antics on Inuk and Nipangi’s facebook pages,” said a March 26 IBC news release.

“According to comments on the sites, Inuit youth are also quite excited to be engaging in discussions in the Inuit language – a key goal of the series.”

The second season plans to continue to serve up fun and laughter to Qanurli? fans, but also hopes to touch on serious issues affecting Nunavummiut youth.

On March 27, Qanurli’s main stars, Inuk and Nipangi will be hosting IBC’s live phone-in show called Qanuq Isumavit to talk up the new season, touch base with their fans and gather feedback for upcoming episodes.

Qanuq Isumavit airs on APTN March 27 at 8 p.m. EST.

Views in Iqaluit can call 979-0810, Nunavummiut who elsewhere in the territory should call 1-800-337-6186.
