Sexual abuse prevention workshop slated for Iqaluit

If you want to learn how to protect children from sexual abuse, you will want to attend an Iqaluit workshop which starts March 24.

The free workshop, put on by Nunavut’s Embrace Life Council and Voice Found, a Canadian non-profit that focuses on education to prevent the sexual abuse of children and resources to support adult survivors, is based on the “Stewards of Children” prevention program.

The workshop, which takes place from March 24 to March 28, is designed for all “responsible adults,” including parents and organizations that serve children and youth, Embrace Life said in a news release.

Workshops participants will learn more about:

• the problem of child sexual abuse;

• the situations in which child sexual abuse might occur;

• strategies for protecting children from sexual abuse;

• the importance of talking about the prevention of sexual abuse with children and other adults; and

• the signs of sexual abuse so you that you might intervene and be able to react responsibly.

Two facilitators from Voice Found will deliver the workshop in Iqaluit on the following dates:

• March 24 – 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.;

• March 26 – 9 a.m. to noon;

• March 27 – 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.; and,

• Thursday, March 28 – 9 a.m. to noon.
