Should communities start own bereavement funds?

By NUNATSIAQ NEWS

I am an avid follower of the news. I love it when people share their stories, and share their comments in support of each other.

With Iqaluit being a bigger community in Nunavut, I am happy people are willing to share, get together, and support each other when times get rough.

What I don’t like is when there is the death of a family member in another community, and some families cannot afford to travel to attend their loved one’s funeral.

I think that every community should have an ongoing bereavement travel fund, community members raising money to support each other in their time of need.

Some communities may not raise lots of money but, as many of you know, any help is very much appreciated. It would help avoid the rush and further unneeded stress.

Imagine the difference you could make in your community by doing something like this: more support for each other, better trust in each other, and spending more quality time with each other.
