Thank you to Angel Tree volunteers

By NUNATSIAQ NEWS

For more than 10 years, Northmart in Iqaluit had a tree decorated with paper angels.

Each angel represented a child under the age of 18 who may not receive a gift at Christmas for one reason or another.

Individuals or business could choose an angel and purchase a gift for that child.

This year we delivered more than 400 gifts to children in Iqaluit, the women and children of the women’s shelters, the men at the men’s shelter and to the patients at the boarding home and hospital.

We would like to say a huge thank you to all individuals and businesses who purchased gifts for the Angel Tree children or donated money for gifts.

Thank you to Clarence at NCC — and the various organizations that made donations through NCC — and to the Royal Purple for the large cash donations that went to the purchasing of gifts. Thanks also to the Department of Education for their fundraising efforts that also resulted in large donations.

We need to say a tremendous thank you to Dave Seamone as well as all the rest of the staff and management at Northmart. Due to Dave’s dedication, commitment, and organization there were some very happy children in Iqaluit this Christmas.

We also need to thank the many volunteers, mainly from the Department of Education, — thanks Daisy, Louise, Ginette, Mary, Josefina, Ross, Melanie, Leonie and the many others — who helped to organize, wrap and deliver the gifts just before Christmas.

Without your help, the delivery would not have been done in time for Christmas.

Again, thanks to all who donated gifts, money or their time in helping to ensure that the children of Iqaluit had gifts to open this Christmas.
