Three candidates to vie for presidency of national Inuit org

Three candidates are in the running for the position of Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami president, who will be elected Sept. 17 following the ITK annual general meeting, which starts Sept. 16 in the western Nunavut town of Cambridge Bay.
ITK’s chief electoral officer, Peter Geikie, announced the names of the candidates Aug. 19 in a news release.
The candidates, in alphabetical order, are:
• the incumbent president, Terry Audla
• Jerry Komaksiutiksak
• Natan Obed
ITK, formerly known as Inuit Tapirisat of Canada, represents 60,000 Inuit living in 53 communities throughout Nunavut, Nunavik, Nunatsiavut, the Inuvialuit region of the Northwest Territories and Inuit living in southern Canada.
