Three from Arviat receive Diamond Jubilee medals

Medal honours the contributions of Rhoda Akpaliapik Karetak, Donald Uluadluak Sr. and Lois Suluk-Locke

On behalf of Nunavut Premier Eva Aariak, Daniel Shewchuk, MLA for Arviat, presented the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee medal to three Nunavummiut on June 15: Rhoda Akpaliapik Karetak for her contributions to arts and culture, Donald Uluadluak Sr. for his work in education and Lois Suluk-Locke.

The Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal was created to mark the 60th anniversary of her accession to the throne and is being awarded to 60,000 Canadians for their contributions to their community, province or territory, and/or Canada.

The GN, as a partner organization, will be awarding 55 of these medals to outstanding Nunavummiut throughout the year.
