Two Kangirsuk men face first-degree murder charges in the Sept. 15 death of another young man from the same community.

Peter Grey, 20, died at the local health clinic Sept. 15 from apparent gunshot wounds. Police say they won’t know exactly how Grey died until their investigation is complete.

Now, two young men, Jamie Eetook, 19, and a 17-year-old boy, a minor who cannot be named, have been charged with first degree murder, conspiracy to commit an indictable offence, and attempted murder.

The two were charged by video-conference Sept. 16, Sûreté du Québec provincial police spokesperson Marc Tessier said Sept. 17.

Tessier said the investigation into the incident is continuing. SQ investigators visited Kangirsuk Sept. 16, but have since left.

Officers from the Kativik Regional Police Force in Kangirsuk first responded to a call about gunshots at around 4 a.m. Sept. 15.

Grey later died at the local health clinic, the SQ said.

The 20-year-old father was an avid hockey fan and goalie.
