Nunavut RCMP are investigating a vehicle crash in the community of Whale Cove that killed a local man Dec. 11.

At about 9:30 a.m. that day, police responded to a report of a single vehicle accident on the sea ice close to the community of about 400 people, the RCMP said in a Dec. 12 release.

When police arrived, they discovered a 30-year-old man, who did not survive the accident. Police have not released the name of the victim, nor have they said what kind of vehicle he was driving at the time.

The RCMP says its investigators are working with the office of the chief coroner and the Whale Cove health centre to understand what happened Dec. 11.
