Young Cape Dorset man faces attempted murder, dangerous weapon charges
An 18-year-old Cape Dorset boy is recovering from stab wounds while another 18-year-old faces serious criminal charges after a confrontation outside the Cape Dorset community hall last week turned ugly.
Police responded to the incident at around 9:20 p.m., Dec. 30, where they found an 18-year-old in front of the community hall who had been stabbed.
The boy was medevaced to the Qikiqtani General Hospital in Iqaluit, but his wounds are not life-threatening, an RCMP news release said.
Later that evening, police arrested another 18-year-old and held him overnight until a Dec. 31 appearance before a justice of the peace
Pavina Petaulassie, 18, of Cape Dorset, now faces charges of attempted murder and possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace.
After appearing before a justice of the peace Dec. 31 in Cape Dorset, Petaulassie was to have been held in remand until a Jan. 4 court appearance in Iqaluit.
