Fresh from a week of high-level meetings at the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, government representatives from seven Nordic countries are scheduled to meet in Iqaluit on Sunday.

The foreign affairs ministers of Denmark, Norway, Sweden, and the Faroe Islands, the permanent state secretaries of Iceland and Finland, and a representative from Greenland will accompany Canada’s Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly to Iqaluit, a spokesperson from Global Affairs Canada confirmed Tuesday.

The foreign ministers will arrive Saturday, then on Sunday meet with Nunavut Premier P.J. Akeeagok and cabinet members at the legislative assembly building. They’ll also receive a tour of the legislative chamber that morning.

In the afternoon, they will meet with the 1st Canadian Ranger Patrol Group at the Unikkaarvik Visitor Centre.

They plan to speak to the rangers about their “lived experiences as northerners,” as well as “talk about Arctic strategy in regards to the Department of National Defence update and how to strategically work together in that area,” the spokesperson said.

The visit will conclude with a 15-minute photo-op at the Sylvia Grinnell Territorial Park Lookout Point before the officials return to the Iqaluit airport for a flight back to New York.

What? Why? It is meeting of representatives of countries, not ethnic groups.

Russia definitely should have been there, but current circumstances make that challenging.

Problem with the russians , is that they invaded another country , which is a no no. Unless , you invade in the name of ” FREEDOM AND DEMOCRACY ” or “WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION ” .
