Nunavik web surfers get speed boost

Tamaani doubles bandwidth, raises download limits

By SARAH ROGERS

Tamaani, Nunavik’s wireless internet provider, has upgraded wireless access for its almost 2,000 residential users.

The company rang in 2010 by doubling speeds and offering larger daily download limits – without raising users’ monthly bills.

The speed for regular customers will reach 512 kbs, which means it will take approximately 20 seconds to download a 10mb file.

The internet provider began an overhaul of the system last August. In December, residential users received a free month of internet use.

Tamaani Wireless Internet was launched by the Kativik Regional Government in 2004.
