Two Nunavik mayors face criminal charges

Ivujivik mayor goes to court for machete and rifle charges, assault

Two Nunavik mayors and regional councillors with the Kativik Regional Government are scheduled to appear in court to face serious criminal charges.

Casey Mark, the mayor of Ivujivik, faces four charges related to an incident alleged to have occurred Dec. 28, 2007.

The charges against Mark, who turns 36 this month, include handling a loaded .223 calibre rifle in a careless manner, improper storage of a firearm, possessing a weapon (a machete) “for a purpose dangerous to the public peace,” and assault against Pialli Mark.

Mark is scheduled to appear in court in Puvirnituq on Oct. 29.

Lucassie Inukpuk, 58, mayor of Kuujjuaraapik, faces a charge of impaired driving in connection with an incident alleged to have occurred Dec. 12, 2008.

Inukpuk is scheduled to appear again in court in Kuujjuaraapik on Nov. 23.
