Iqaluit fire department douses early morning blaze
Legion staff house suffers $75,000 in damage
Iqaluit firefighters extinguished a fire in the entry-way of an apartment building during the early morning hours of March 11.
The fire took place at building 948, a staff house for employees of the Iqaluit branch of the Royal Canadian Legion.
Fire officials said in a news release that no one was hurt.
“Damage was due mostly to smoke and heat as well as forced entry into the residential apartments during search procedures,” said a city news release.
Contents of the apartments also sustained smoke damage, the release stated. Damage is estimated at $75,000.
Fire officials and police are still investigating the cause.
