Nalligivatsi to my extended family

By NUNATSIAQ NEWS

My uncle Charlie once said to us “Only if your late mother’s Anisi and late father’s Joanassie Nowkawalk’s immediate family lived nearby, I think we could form a small village.”

I agreed with him on this one.

Happy Valentine’s Day to my eldest grandmother Rynee Flaherty in Iqaluit and heer children: Mary, Martha, Elisapie, Peter, Jamie, Harry, Lalena, and her grandchildren, in Grise Fiord, Ottawa, Iqaluit, and Halifax.

Nalligivagit to Ajaagguuk Annie Sala in Puvirnituq, her children, Ituk, Winnie, Susie, Ajaagguk Mary in Kuujjuak, and Johnny Nivixie in Montreal, and her grandchildren.

Nalligivatsi to Ajaagguk Sepora Kumarluk in Umiujaq and her children: Lucy, Eddy, and Hannah in Montreal, Louisa in Quartaq, Saalialuk and Daniel in Umiujaq, Peter in Kuujjuaraapik, and Ajaki Annie in Ivujivik, and Sepora’s countless grandchildren.

Grandma Julia Tookaluk? No, she is too young to be my grandma, so I am going to call her “auntie Julie” from now on. Her children: Winnie, Junior, Rebecca, Mary-Ann, Kaina, and Mary, and her grandchildren.

Happy Valentine’s Day to Uncle Joe Kitishimik in Kuujjuaraapik and his family.

Happy Valentine’s Day to all of my grandfather’s countless relatives in Inukjuak as well.

My late grandfather Joannassie Nowkawalk may have had a sister in Kingait too.

From me, Sal, Qaunnaapik, and Lisi-Tiina.
