Iqaluit RCMP probe “suspicious death” in Lower Base
People with knowledge of incident urged to call police with information
The Iqaluit RCMP says anyone with information.or knowledge of a recent incident at house 725 in Iqaluit is urged to call the Iqaluit RCMP at (867) 979-0123 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
Iqaluit RCMP members are saying little about a dead man they found inside a house in Lower Base this past Friday, except that they are treating the case as a “suspicious death.”
Police found the man’s body at house 725, just behind the Northmart store, at around 11:30 a.m. Jan. 29.
Though they know the man’s identity, police are not releasing his name until his next-of-kin are notified.
Throughout the weekend, RCMP members kept a close watch on house 725 and used the headlights of vehicles parked on the opposite side of the street to illuminate the front of the building, which is now marked off with yellow tape, during the dark hours of the night.
A Pai-Pa taxi vehicle marked with the number “58” remained parked in front of the house all weekend.
An RCMP news release issued Jan. 29 says members of the “V” division serious crimes unit are now investigating the death.
