Alex Campbell, one of the Government of Nunavut’s longest serving senior public servants and the current deputy minister of Health and Social Services, will depart the territorial government March 18, Premier Eva Aariak announced Jan. 21 in a press release.
Peter Ma, who now serves as deputy minister for the Department of Finance, will replace Campbell as deputy head of the Health and Social Services department.
“As deputy minister of Finance, Peter is well aware of many of the issues faced by the staff of Health and Social Services,” Aariak said.
At the same time, the GN will soon begin a search for a new deputy minister for the Department of Finance, the press release said.
Campbell served as Nunavut Tunngavik Inc.’s first executive director, from 1993 to 1998.
After 2001, Campbell returned to Nunavut to serve as deputy minister of the old Sustainable Development department and the newer Department of Economic Development and Transportation. He became deputy head of Health and Social Services in 2007.
“Alex is a strong member of our executive management team and has led our largest and one of our most critical departments through many challenges,” Aariak said in the news release.
“On behalf of the Government of Nunavut, I would like to thank Alex for over nine years of hard work and dedication to our public service, and wish him the very best in all future endeavours,” she said.
