Members of the Coral Harbour RCMP detachment, with help from Canada Post Security, have seized 3.75 pounds of marijuana that people have attempted to mail to the community, police said in a news release issued April 1.
The investigation, which involved “multiple mail inspections,” has led to trafficking charges against a 24-year-old Nunavut man, police said.
The man, who police did not identify, will appear in court May 13 in Coral Harbour.
Police said that throughout March, some people in Coral Harbour have been using Canada Post to mail drugs into the community.
Police estimate the seized drugs carry an estimated street resale value of about $85,000.
“This amount of drugs posed a significant health and safety risk to the community of 800 people as well as a substantial financial impact on the people and the hamlet,” the RCMP press release said.
