NAC student resents new-unit dwellers

By NUNATSIAQ NEWS

I just moved here to Iqaluit for school with my family.

When I first came here, I was so disappointed, because they put us into a very old house that smelled like sewage and had lots of house bugs and was very dirty.

I had to clean it for three weeks and bought my own cleaning supplies that cost me lots of money out of pocket. I thought the house was supposed to be cleaned before the previous student leaves.

Then I went to student services to ask them if there was any better housing available and they said all the new units were assigned.

The students who live in the new units got everything, like pot and pans, utensils, blankets, sheets, television, spoons, a high chair, and lamps

Here I am asking for a TV stand and they told me they don’t have any, and I when I asked for a drawer, they gave me a very old one. I think it’s even older than me.

On top of all that we are paying out of pocket for everything ourselves, such as pot and pans, utensils, vacuums and so on, unlike the students in the new units.

I had to buy all of my stuff and it cost me a lot of money and those who are living in the new units got everything for free.

It would be nice if we were treated equally, as it should be.
