A message for Pangnirtung’s bootlegging, drug-dealing goons

By NUNATSIAQ NEWS

I am writing from Pangnirtung, and I have a special message to all the people who ship alcohol and drugs to my home town, that you have successfully got them in and had your goons sell them.

As result, last night, a woman almost got killed by a drunk and another man was badly injured from an alcohol-related incident.

I know, when he is not drinking, that he is a very nice man, a good hunter and a supporter of his extended family.

But a number of children are hungry this morning. That’s because the money that was meant to be used for food and to pay bills for the house and cable and power and telephone was used to buy a mickey bottle for several hundred dollars.

Many elders are hungry as well because their money has been used for drugs.

They literally get threatened over and over again, and they are forced to be awake all night because the supposedly happy drugged-up junkie plays music too loud all night long, too drugged up to know that it was too loud.

And the girls who were sleeping over at friends are with them instead and when the elders tell the mother or father, that is what they say, she was at her friends for the night. Little liars!

It goes without saying that the neighbors of these people are also being forced to live with your product.

There are also card players who play all night who are also putting their children at very high risk for goons like you.

I guess that is a plus for you, the alcohol provider. There are more of you. Just come to Pangnirtung. We know who you are.

Mr. Editor, we can just say, booze is bad in town, but that is not the whole story.

People who are responsible for our community health and welfare and people who are always crying about suicide are just talking, in their offices, streets and homes, and they are not doing anything about it.

This does not stop anything or prevent anyone from selling booze in our community: here is result of your production.

As far as high prices are concerned, these are also your fault. Any damage that is done, we pay for it, and we are sick of it and tired of it — so I thought we should let you know.

The damage done to the houses, street violations, trucks, cars, overtime payments for the RCMP, nurses, and or a person who loses a job because of it, people who steal from stores to sell for booze are a direct cause of the high prices in stores.

Every time they steal, prices go up, it really has nothing to do with airplanes, freight cost or whatever. But it really happens, and no one should turn a blind eye to this anymore. Just because politicians talk about it doesn’t mean it get solved, so, you booze providers, you take advantage of it, and this is the result we thought you would really like to know about.

I am not telling my name because of my family’s sake. There are too many drunks out there who can easily do damage and pretend to be blacked out afterwards, so for them, please do not have my name shown.
