A failure of leadership by Leona Aglukkaq?

Leona Aglukkaq
Minister of Health, Canada
Ottawa, Ont.

I write to you about your failure of leadership.

I am annoyed with the closing of the Aboriginal Healing Foundation and your lack of support for allowing the foundation to continue its good work.

I was upset to hear in the media that you failed to attend the special evening meeting of the House of Commons to discuss the future of this foundation. The good work done by this foundation helped heal the problems left behind by the destructive residential school legacy. The foundation helped create healthier and stronger communities in Nunavut.

At a time when you could have stood up to speak on behalf of the people of Nunavut and save the foundation, you did not even bother to do so. Now, during such a time when we looked towards you to help the many Nunavummiut who still suffer, you failed the test of leadership.

I expect you and your puppet, Senator Patterson, will explain that there are some dollars in the bowels of your department for some relief, but that funding will pale in comparison with the work done by our foundation.

However, according to George Erasmus, the funding will only be for government-run programs, which are not run for Inuit, and are not even located in Nunavut communities.

I am now a believer in the Danny Williams ABC campaign. When the next election happens, I too will say and vote Anyone But Conservative.
