ACL buys Sikitu snowmobile shop in Iqaluit

“We can expedite service across the Baffin”

Arctic Co-operatives Ltd. has purchased Iqaluit’s Sikitu Sales and Service Ltd. in an effort to expand its role in Nunavut’s small engine market.

Although Arctic Co-ops serves as off-road vehicle and marine products venders through a majority of its community co-ops across the north, the retailer does not have the same presence in Iqaluit.

“This is not a new business for us, but this will certainly compliment our services,” said Arctic Co-op’s Rod Wilson. “By having Sikitu as part of the co-op’s family, we can expedite service and part supply across the Baffin region.”

The sale won’t change Sikitu’s business operations, Wilson added.

“Our intention are to continue to operate [Sikitu] under the same banner,” he said, “and look for opportunities to grow and expand.”

This acquisition already strengthens ACL business activities in Nunavut’s capital, which include Iqaluit Cable TV, Iqaluit Gas Bar and Convenience Store and Tittaq Office Products.

Sikitu Sales and Service Ltd. has specialized in the sale of snowmobiles, all terrain vehicles and outboard motors for just over a decade.

Sikitu is also a dealer for Polaris, Yamaha and Mercury Marine products and operates a parts department and full service repair centre.
