CamBay woman’s death deemed “suspicious”

An adult male is in custody after a woman’s body was found in Cambridge Bay Feb. 6.

RCMP spokesman Jimmy Akavak confirmed police are investigating the woman’s death and were considering it suspicious. He didn’t reveal the woman’s name.

Police arrested a man in connection with the incident, Akavak said, but wouldn’t release his name because charges have yet to be laid.

Akavak said the RCMP’s major crimes unit was to leave Iqaluit for Cambridge Bay to investigate Feb. 7 but that “severe weather [in Cambridge Bay] may have an impact on their arrival.”
