Nunavut board raps Navigator for booze infractions
One-day licence suspension, $3,000 fine
The Nunavut Liquor Licencing Board imposed a one-day licence suspension and a $3,000 fine on the Navigator Inn after the Iqaluit business admitted to Liquor Act violations earlier this year at its Chartroom Lounge.
The board imposed the penalties Sept. 14, in relation to allegations that on March 5, 2010, March 19, 2010 and April 16, 2010, staff allowed intoxicated person to remain inside the bar.
At a show-cause hearing Sept. 14, the Navigator Inn admitted to the allegations. The one-day licence suspension occurred Sept. 18, a Saturday.
“The board took into account the licencee’s acknowldegement of its responsibility for these contraventions of the liquor legislation and its co-operation with liquor enforcement, as well as the steps it already taken to encourage the safe and responsible use of alcohol in its premises,” Dave Wilman, chair of the Nunavut liquor board, said in a news release.
