Photo: Nunavut’s four candidates meet in Iqaluit

The four candidates contesting the Nunavut seat in the May 2 federal election pose for photographers during a break in the all-candidates forum organized April 23 by CBC North and broadcast live to radio listeners throughout Nunavut. From left: Scott MacCallum (Green); Leona Aglukkaq (Conservative); Jack Hicks (NDP); and Paul Okalik (Liberal.) At the start of the debate, Hicks and Okalik attacked the Conservative government for not putting any money for Nunavut social housing into its recent budget and for its creation of the unpopular Nutrition North Canada program. Aglukkaq responded by pointing to the $300 million in housing money that previous Tory governments have given Nunavut and by quoting from a letter that Paul Okalik wrote as premier of Nunavut to ex-INAC minister Andy Scott calling for a revamp of the old food mail program.
