Search and rescue teams in the Kivalliq region have ended their search for a Rankin Inlet hunter who went missing Jan. 3, after the man walked back to the Whale Cove airport Jan. 4

The 46-year-old man left the community of Whale Cove on snowmobile Monday afternoon to return home to Rankin Inlet, a trip that normally takes three hours.

By late Monday evening, a crew of search and rescue crews from both communities had set out to find the missing man.

But cold weather and blowing snow complicated their search efforts, said RCMP staff sergeant Stephen Bergerman.

Bergerman said the hunter was experienced and well-equipped, with a new snowmobile and a qamutik full of supplies.
