Simon says she didn’t criticize Ottawa
In the June 24, 2010 article “Inuit divided over oil drilling off Greenland” I would like to correct the record.
The reporter characterized a factual presentation of the social and economic gaps between Inuit and other Canadians as “criticizing the federal government.” This was not how it was presented to the ITK board.
Furthermore, I did not “accuse” the federal government of passing off responsibility for aboriginal and social problems to provincial and territorial governments.
Finally, I did not say that “Ottawa’s approach is all about process and not about substance.”
The discussion was regarding the process of the Council of the Federation – the group made up of the provinces and territories.
I described the meetings leading up to the next COF meeting in August 2010 as process heavy. The reporter is confused the two.
