Man threatened to kill people inside Northmart
A 22-year-old man who pulled a knife and threatened to kill people at the Iqaluit Northmart store after he was accused of of shoplifting now sits in police custody awaiting a court appearance scheduled for Sept. 27.
Northmart staff called police to the store at around 1:00 p.m. Sept. 25, an RCMP news release said.
There, police found a man inside the store who “was wielding a knife and threatening to kill people.”
Police say they took the man into custody a few minutes later. Neither he nor any police officers were injured, the RCMP press release said.
The man, who has yet to be named, now faces the following charges: assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public, uttering threats, and theft under $5,000.
The man is to appear in court Sept. 27 in Iqaluit.
