Enuk Pauloosie gets a game misconduct
MLAs suspend no-show member
The MLA for Nattilik, Enuk Pauloosie, will sit in the penalty box for the legislative assembly's current sitting as punishment for failing to show up for various caucus and committee meetings.
MLAs passed a motion this past June 5 to suspend him without pay until the end of the spring sitting, which also started June 5.
The motion states that Pauloosie "has been persistently absent without reasonable explanation from meetings of the Legislative Assembly's committees and caucuses."
Pauloosie was elected to the assembly in the Oct. 27 , 2008 territorial election, winning 34.5 per cent of the vote to defeat three other candidates.
Prior to the election, Pauloosie worked for eight years as a lands officer with the Government of Nunavut. He's also the leader of the popular Gjoa Band, which performed at last year's Alianait festival in Iqaluit.
The legislature is also sitting this week without the services of Tununiq MLA James Arvaluk, who is recovering from a heart attack.
