Police want help with suspicious death investigation in Iqaluit
Have you seen this woman?
Iqaluit's RCMP detachment wants your help.
They're asking for anyone who saw or spoke to Daisy Curley, 34, between Monday, May 18 (Victoria Day) and Sunday, May 24 to contact the Iqaluit RCMP detachment.
They say anyone with information related to their investigation into her unexplained death should call one of the following numbers:
- Iqaluit RCMP detachment: (867) 979-0123; or
- Crime Stoppers: 1-800-222-8477.
Police found Curley's lifeless body around 2:00 p.m., May 24, at House 1631 in Iqaluit.
As of the Nunatsiaq News press-time this week, police were still referring to the case as a "suspicious death."
But in a press release this week, they referred to her death as "this crime."
And in a news release issued this week, the Iqaluit RCMP say they've called in people from the RCMP Calgary Forensic Identification Section and the RCMP Edmonton Serious Crimes unit to help them with their investigation.
Police say the medical examiner's office in Toronto performed an autopsy on Curley's body May 27, and that they are working with them to determine a cause of death.
Police combed House 1631 for evidence for about seven days. This past weekend, they took down a yellow police tape barrier that blocked access to two nearby roads in Happy Valley.
Police say they believe that Curley's death was "an isolated incident" and that Iqaluit residents need not be alarmed.
They've also produced a poster bearing the woman's picture that police will pin up around Iqaluit.
Daisy Curley's funeral service was to have been held June 3.
