Search called off after 13 days

Pond Inlet man vanishes without a trace

By NUNATSIAQ NEWS

After a 13-day search that was called off July 23, no one knows what became of a middle-aged Pond Inlet man who vanished last month with no obvious explanation.

Boazie Idlout, a longstanding employee of the Qulliq Energy Corp. in his late 40s, disappeared around July 10 and hasn't been seen since.

"It's very strange," said Pond Inlet resident David Qamaniq.

Qamaniq said Idlout, who may have been suffering marital problems, left his truck near the Pond Inlet power plant, where he works. No one knows where he may have gone after that.

Eighty ground searchers, on foot or using ATVs, combed the land around Pond Inlet with the help of a police dog brought in from Iqaluit and a helicopter chartered by the RCMP.

The search, which began July 10, was called off July 23.

Cst. Michel Mignon of the Pond Inlet RCMP detachment said searchers found no trace of the man, but that police will continue to keep the file open.
