Second Nunavik man injured in shooting incident
Man killed after girlfriend takes life
A desire for revenge may have sparked two violent incidents, which occurred in Nunavik on June 11.
People in Puvirnituq say a young man died June 11 following a confrontation with a distraught man, the father of a young woman who recently committed suicide.
The young man was her boyfriend, sources told the Nunatsiaq News.
Responding to a call received around 10 p.m. on June 11 about a man who was lying in the street, the KRPF found a man who was severely injured. They brought the injured man to the Inuulitsivik health centre where he was declared dead.
The SQ did not confirm the nature of the injuries that caused the man's death.
The SQ major crimes squad from Montreal assisted with the KRPF investigation that led to the arrest of a man accused of causing the June 11 death.
Timothy Amittu, 46, of House 620-1 appeared June 15 in court in Puvirnituq where he was charged with manslaughter. Amittu, who remains in preventive custody, will appear again in court in Puvirnituq on August 31.
Police identified the victim as Markussie Aupaluk, 20.
In a separate incident, a man, a police constable with the Kativik Regional Police Force, was injured June 11 in Inukjuak.
The constable may have been shot by a second man over a dispute involving a woman, sources told Nunatsiaq News.
According to the Sûreté du Québec in Rouyn-Noranda, the constable was shot in his ankle Thursday morning around 9:15.
A man then barricaded himself in a house, giving himself up several hours later after a period of short negotiation with an SQ swat team from Rouyn-Noranda.
The man, 23, was to have appeared this past week in court, but his name and the charges against him were unable to be verified by the Nunatsiaq News deadline this week.
