Thieves steal guns, ammo from Kangirsuk police
Guns and ammunition went missing during an Aug. 14 break-in at the police station in Kangirsuk in which the door to the police station’s evidence room was pushed in.
Three men will appear in court next week in Kuujjuaq in connection with the recent ransacking and theft at the Kativik Regional Police Force station in Kangirsuk.
“There was a break-in at the Kangirsuk police station during the early morning hours of August 14, 2009. This incident is being investigated by the KRPF. Arrests were made over the weekend,” Julie Grenier, the communications co-ordinator for the Kativik Regional Government, said this week.
Three of the people who were arrested appeared before a judge by telephone and were remanded in custody to a southern detention centre, she said.
The trio will appear in court in Kuujjuaq during the week of Aug 24, she said.
In connection with this incident, Charlie Simiunie, 21, Charlie Pootoogee, 18, Robbie Thomassie, 19, all of Kangirsuk, each face numerous charges, including those related to a break-and-enter into a residence, the break-and-enter into the police station, theft and reckless use of a 12-gauge shotgun, theft of guns and bullets from the KRPF, possession of stolen property, and mischief.
